EGR problem solved forever!!
Had same symptoms as others with total flat spot at 2000rpm, turbo didn't kick in at all. Took out egr valve and it was caked up with black sooty carbon. Also the ports which link the egr valve with the main intake manifold were completely choked. Cleaned them out and the EGR valve, copper greased the sleeve of the valve before I put it back in and no more hesitation or flat spots. Total cost of repair £5 for carb cleaner. Thanks for everyone's advice and tips, it was invaluable. My only tip to add is to remove the air inlet plastic hose and it's rubber block mounting from the manifold, this gets you far better access to the egr valve, which was well seized in place. It is also only held in place by 3 bolts.
I've finally managed to rid myself of the pesky
problem, or at least my Laguna did it for me by blowing the
, eating the bits and throwing in a cracked cylinder head just for good measure. Bill for repair: £2500, Warranty Direct contribution offer: £1000! My first ever "nearly new" car I've had (10 months old when I bought it), a 52 plate Sport Tourer with just 96k on the clock towed away on Tuesday forever in exchange £100 cash...Hey presto,
problem solved, although this solution might not suit everyone...
