What Does The Word 'Service' Mean To You?

What exactly is a service?.

I'm interested in peoples idea of exactly what a service on a car should include, what they think it includes, and how much you are prepared to pay for it.I often drive past garages offering 'Service From 99'.....but what do you expect for that money?.If you service your own car,how much does it cost and what do you do each time?.Does a main dealer service in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations fill you with more confidence than a service at an independant?.

I'm particularly interested to hear from people that have actually had a '99 service' and actually paid 99 for it and what they actually got for the money.

(Obviously any bad experiences, please respect out naming and shaming policy).

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
