I do all my servicing myself....
filter, air filter and spark plugs each time and only costs me ***8364;52. While I'm servicing it every 5.5k miles I check breaks, bushings, drive boots, gear box
, coolent, brake and power steering fluid, check exhaust boxes and rubber holders etc.
I also replaced the coolent, rad, thermostat, back drums, shoes, front disks, pads and calipers, all shocks, top shock mounts, springs and track rod ends myself. None is rocket science!
My attitude is give it a try an if I can't do it then I'll pay someone to do it. I've done 100,000 miles and the car has never been in a garage or failed its test and i reckon I've saved a packet doing it myself....and I'm sure a garage mechanic under pressure would miss something.
