Thumbs up

If you go the Saab route look at a facelift post 02 model 9-5 with the 2.2Tid engine. The engine is an Isuzu unit and bulletproof and will easily return over 50mpg, DO NOT even consider the 3.0Tid, they are a timebomb waiting to go off. True the 9-5 is based on the Vectra B chassis but it is vastly reworked and a very nice compromise especially if you can get a Tid with sport package. If you are going for a later model with the Fiat 1.9Tdi engine, both the 9-3ss and the 9-5 share the same engine. The difference is in the build quality and rear leg room which the 9-5 wins out on on both counts.
The second hand value of Saabs is a good reason to buy them though, find yourself a decent indy for servicing and you won't regret it.
