At least you now have a red light. Yes it should flash even without the ingition on.
The car starting for a few seconds means that the imobiliser is still engaged. It cuts off the fuel supply.

I've not had or seen any experience of any thing of this type.
Yes Renault do know how to charge to get the key, immobiliser etc sorted but I would be inclined just to phone Renault in the first place. You MAY be surprised.
Sorry I've not been too much help and somebody else may read your post and offer further advise.
