Quite right Matt.
This is a very common problem on most of the earlier Renaults.
To remove the old broken aerial all you need to do is genlty take the interior light unit out. (it just clips in) Then remove the centre locking sensor and undo the bolt that the secures the aerial to the roof.
When you replace the aerial make sure you use a suitable sealer under the base to help prevent water ingress.
