GPS Fin Problems on Laguna II

I have a Laguna II 03 plate with the Carminat Sat Nav system. The system had been fine until last week when it stopped working. It first of all told me that I was in a different place than I actually was and would not direct me anywhere I wanted to go. After looking closely I noticed that the satellite dish on the screen had turned red and was not green. The CD was also turning red and TMC was intermittent.
After looking on this and other forums it appears that the module in the GPS Fin has problems with corroding after about 6 years. I did the normal diagnosis tests first - making sure it was not picking up satellites etc.

I took some advice off a friend who owns a garage and decided that there was no point in buying a second hand one as I could face the same problem again.
In the end I had to bite the bullet and purchase a new GPS fin and 8ft cable at a cost of 92.
My friend fitted it cheaply but it was not an easy task as you have to run the cable under the inner roof lining back to the GPS console.

After this was done it worked perfectly straight away. An easy solution but with a nasty sting to the wallet.

I hope this helps others with the same problem.
