Hello Jackie,

Yes, I would believe that the hydraulic struts (at least one of them) will have worn out.

Its a fairly easy fix, the most difficult aspect is keeping the tailgate open whilst swapping them over, but a well-placed broom hande/snooker cue will do the job.
