Hopeing someone can steer me right,
I have a 97 Megane RS 5 door petrol 1.6 liter,
as of recent the battery was acting up on start low charge so I checked it.
It was low on water so I added battery water to it, (me thinks that renaults run hot and the water after a year of driving has been slowly evaporating because of this renault aspect)
He starts fine now, no problems but the engine electronics warning light comes on now at low rpm =/ I am thinking lose belt which I checked there is about 5 to 8 mm of depression I can get by pushing with my finger, or possibly worn brushes in the alternator anyone know where I can order a set of brushes?
I live in Sweden and parts here are godawful expensive I have ordered some parts from UK.
Correct diagnosis or?
Also since I am an antique car mechanic and have stayed away from modern cars for the last 22 years untill I bough my wife this car "Rene" last year for a engagement gift, I have dreaded them just because of all of the electronics.. ah the good old days!
Make note I am very good at rebuilding the keyless entry sensor on the 97 model as I rebuilt the one in this car. Hence why I got it so cheap about 1500 euro with 126,000 km on it.
Only problem I have had is a noisy wheel bearing which I repalced myself (may have to do another soon) and did a front break job and one exaust clamp other than that Rene has been a good boy untill this recent little problem. We maybe drive him an average of 300 km a month as we live in the city and dont drive much.
He also lets me start him without the keyless enty as of late even when being activated now and stays running? I'm going to check him over again today and perhaps ajust the belt which I find must be done from under the car as there is little room to do it from above! Gah!
Any advice to the warning lamp at low rpm issue and where to get a set of brushes to reduild the alternator would be much appricated.
