the drivers side doors are wired seperatly so if both doors are not working there is a fault in each door, the most common thing to go wrong is the optical sensor, it has a micro switch in the back of it that is triggered by the door handle being pulled. the system if not used for 24 hours goes to sleep so as to not flatten the battery so to open you have to pull the handle twice instead of just putting your hand in the opening. anyway the micro switch sticks in and prevents the use of the opital part of the sensor or the button. If it was on clip (diagnostic Machine) it tells you the status of all the locks and sensors, it can save alot of time and damage to get it pluged in. To test the buttons on the handle normally a gentle press on the button should result in a click being heard that would normally indicate they are ok.
