Also it'd be for easier access to seatbelt mounting points etc. You can't expect a tester to go scrambling around the back of a car on all fours, I suspect there's some health and safety ruling there somewhere
Thinking about it, there probably is mate. In a 3 door car the front seats fold forward so the people in the rear can get out, in a 4/5 door car they don't you it would be a hazard for rear passengers should they need to get out quickly, especially if you are 3 up in the rear.
