Disconnecting the battery for a while wont do any harm, just make sure you have your radio code and that you leave the sidelights on beforehand (saves spikes going to the dash).

If that doesnt work then why not get the TPM system disabled by Renault (or ask if your independant can do it too), its more trouble than its worth in my view. I had this done on my Lag II when I had it, and it was the best thing i did to that car.
