I think it has been designed to work (obviously it has worked), the question is in the durability or length of service given.

To say an electrical item is not a wear & tear item is completely wrong, according to your logic, then a lightbulb, fuse, contact breaker should last the lifetime of the car - which if none of these things fail, is almost infinte, it would seem.

Manufacturers are in a Catch 22 situation whenever a part fails - if they all do that - then its a 'known issue'; if its uncommon - then its premature and therefore a 'manufacturing defect'.

I used to own a Renault (the most expensive one of all), and I gave up after 2.5 years of electrical issues. If the manufacturer had offered me a discounted repair to cure these woes, I'd have gratefully accepted it (and still have had the car), rather than cynically sitting on the sidelines inspecting the mouths of gift horses.

Fact is, they didn't need to offer anything.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
