well just found another temp sensor, this one is at the back of the cylinder head and the one I think sends the signal to the ECU . I was a bit blinkered by the one on the front of the engine and thought that was it. Anyway have checked this one out and their is no ohms resistance and no volts when its hot or cold so this may be the culprit.
I will let yopu know when its changed.

If it is a sensor then how come the ECU 's dont go into limp mode? seems strange that it does not have that ability rather than just shut the whole system down.
