Forum members often point to tdc sensor. Worth while checking sensor but your symptoms point to 2 things: Coolant temperature sensor and injection pump timing. Glowplug preheat time is variable but light on dashboard should go out after 2 seconds when coolant temperature is above 10C. The engine should start easily without the glowplugs if engine is in good condition and not too cold. Have a read of post 7 & 8 of this thread. These posts explain how to measure injection timing on your engine if equipped with a Bosch pump.
