the top white temp sensor on the thermostat housing tell the glowplug circuit engine temp, if you unplug it the glow plug on time defaults to 20secs no matter what the weather.
i would first check the connection and/or replace it as its a very cheap part.
i would also give the crank sensor a clean, its a magnet and picks up the swarf on the flywheel teath (caused by the starter motor)
