No it won't,and for your MOT man to say that he'll fail it is a joke.
The warning light is just showing a fault in the system like a poor connection,there is no possibility of the bag going off in your face.
If you are adamant that you don't want the airbag any more then I would remove it and take it to your local respectable breakers yard,they will know what to do with it.Don't try and set it off yourself or dispose of it whilst it's still intact.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
