In all honesty using one of those LED checker thingies in the cigarette light ain't a very good means of testing the alternator output. I deally you need to check the charging voltage at the battery using a multi-meter. Most decent specialised battery suppliers usually will do a free check in the hope o fgaining a sale.
Note I said "specialised battery supplier"
