It well could be a duff alternator bearing or alternator pulley clutch. You could try starting the engine from cold with the auxiliary belt removed to rule out the possibility the noise may be from the timing belt area. Also remember shoulld the alternator seize it may cause the auxiliary belt to fail and it is well known for failing auxiliary belts to take the timing belt with them.
