Cheers Martin, in that case I'll place my Renault keycard in the plastic tray and put it on the conveyor belt through the scanner along with my mobile phone, belt etc and assume it'll come through fine at both the UK end and returning from Portugal.

I just wanted to ask on this forum to prevent me putting the keycard in the scanner tray and then on returning from Europe not being able to open my car as the keycard has been damaged.

I felt silly asking, as my mobile phone and laptop etc have always been fine, but Renault equipment seems to be so sensitive, it'd just be typical if something damaged the keycard so I couldn't drive home from the airport. The airport's only 30 minutes away anyway so if the worst did happen I could get a train or taxi/friend's lift home and use my 2nd/spare keycard.
