Your battery will be fubar'ed mate. The same thing happened to me when I had my Lag II. The cells in the battery were dead. A new battery solved the problem.
I imagine no amount of charging the old battery will help if the cells are damaged inside the battery.
Save yourself some hassle / stress and go get a new battery fitted. It would probably be wise to have it load tested to see if its holding charge first.
