I would think the easiest repair is replacing faulty cable and/ or connected terminal. Identifying the faulty cable may prove difficult. The best method is by injecting current using a suitably sized 12 volt bulb. A standard 21 W indicator bulb with cables and probes attached is ideal. Testing for faulty cable using a multimeter may not be conclusive - as long as a single strand is still connected you won't detect it but enough to upset ECU . I had a similar problem to yours on my Smart which is a real fly by wire car. All cables I checked on the ECU connector measured OK with my Fluke multimeter. Found the faults straight away when I used the old fashioned method using a light bulb.
