The connector on the end of the loom which plugs into the ECU is a self sealed Delphi which needs a push terminal tool to re-connect the pins back into the connector.
Removing terminals out of connector housings happens to be one of my special skills. You don't need a tool when you asseble terminals into a housing, they just push in and the leaf springs lock them in. Seal is usually be a soft grommet. A release tool is required for removing a terminal. You can easily make a release tool out of a short piece of welding rod or similar material. Check out the 6 pin connector
for the clutch actuator on the Smart car and you'll see what I mean.
