That's a real shame as the car looks in pretty good order (pre-impact).

I wonder if it would be possible to negotiate a cash settlement to retain the car, and maybe get a cheaper bodyshop to carry out what are effectively cosmetic not structural repairs?

Its maybe me, but 2 doors (possibly secondhand in the correct colour), plus a bit of pulling & filling on the sill and the car would be as good as it was before.

Difficult call to make, kind of depends on what the insurance offer and how trouble-free the car had been beforehand.
