I don't know on a Clio as I've never had one, but on my Rover you took a small screw out and split the casing. The battery was one of those small pencil batteries some cameras take, some might use watch type batteries.
It's probably easier to just change the battery first if you know it's been in a while, then see how it is, they're only a couple of quid.
