If your insurance is any good you would only need to pay abot 50-75 excess on it.

And it does pay to shop about for insurance that covers all the glass, not just the front screen! (check the small print and get them to confirm on the phone), as some say they do but in the small print have exclusion of all other glass but front.

new one is 200-300 excluding fitting, from autoglass/rac etc...
and there are at least 3 differnt versions of front screen (clear, heated, tinted with/without graduated top tint)
in some cases you may have to order the correct one(next day delivery), though most suppliers will have several on the shelf.

It's Best to go round to the local depot and ask in person for advise regarding windscreens as they can do some quite good repairs to some damage and at the least will be able to give you very good advice on making a claim with the least hassel.

Cutting one out of another car (scrapper) can be done but is gonna be very difficult to do without breaking it as they are all bonded in.

(if your doing this, let us know how many you broke b4 getting a good one out )

Its terrible these days with all the gritters now out earlier and earlier in the year.
I mean u never know when u might catch a nasty oversized bit of grit or other stone chucked up by the car in front and break your windscreen.
