Dont forget that if the tank is NOT! fully supported you may well end up cracking the filler unit in half on the middle seam.
I suspect that is what happened when my straps were replaced, first sign of problems was smell of petrol when parking up and damp patches on the OS of the tank.
Probably better to release the jubilee clips on the hose connecting the filler unit to the tank to avoid putting too much stress on the filler unit to start with.
When messing about with fuel lines/straps etc its always better to go for original parts, they are not that expensive from main dealers.
(compared to watching your car go up in flames on the side of the road)
