Re: Any advice on where I stand?
Taking the trader to the small claims court and getting them to pay up are entirely different issues. Also the court may consider could the faulty unit have been capable of being repaired and only award what it may deem to be a reasonable cost for such a repair. For instance if the dealer offered to have the unit removed and repaired by an independent electronics repair company that may be sufficient to satisfy the courts interpretation of the "Sale of Goods Act"
At the end of the day all you want is for the CD player to work correctly and it may be quicker and cheaper to have the unit repaired by an independent company. Also if the cost of such a repair was less than the £100 offered by the dealer you could actually end up with money in your pocket.
