Re: Clio II - can you auto carwash?
Sponges can introduce just as many scratches and swirl marks as an auto wash. The grit etc stays on the surface of a sponge so even if regularly rinsed it will still scratch your car.
Use a car wash mitt - they dont cost that much and wash your car in an up/down/up motion rather than a circular motion. That way any minor swirls/scratches will be less noticeable as they will all be in a vertical direction rather thn in all directions.
Use two buckets - one with just water to regularly rinse the wash mitt - the other bucket to have your shampoo in.
Also dont overdo the shampoo as too much will strip the wax off your car. Lots of bubbles doesn't necessarily mean better cleaning!
Washing by hand may be a bit more work but unless you live right next door to a car wash by the time you get in the car, drive to the car wash, queue up and then drive home again you will have finished washing your car anyway. Also saved some money on fuel as well as getting a bit of light exercise.
