Re: scenic tailgate(boot opening)problems

Hi there.

I would reckon on there being a captive nut on the frame, which has either split and fallen into the body, or the threads have worn and the bolt can't grip it.

I reckon the simplest and most effective way to repair is to remove the interior trim where the strut bolts into, and by using a suitably-sized nut & washer, bolt the strut into place, refit the trim, and that's that dealt with.

Plastic trim is normally held in place with a combination of plastic clips (these can break), plastic plugs (fairly easy to remove, just apply even pressure), and metal torx bolts.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
