I have had this occur a number of times on my old laggy1
Take the car to a independnet garage, get them to stick the car on the ramp and have one of them stuff his arm up into the engine bay and pull on the cables, (may help if someone was standing at the front of the car to pull the bonnet up at the same time.
It only takes a few minutes to get it open and no damage to bodywork. A tenner tops on the charge to pop the bonnet.
Make sure you have replacement cables ready for fitting and always make sure the catches are totaly clean, (not smothered in gunky grease) as its all the road gunk sticking to them that causes them to jam and fail.
