My Carminat screen has done something similar off and on from new. Occasionally, it just goes off and refuses to come back on - the only solution is to take out the keycard and leave the car for several hours, after which it invariably comes back. Of course this is a royal PITA if you need to go somewhere NOW and you don't know how to get there. It's one of the reasons why I went and bought TomTom.

The display module on this system seem to be very flaky and it doesn't take much to upset it. I suspect yours has crashed due to the low voltage from the old battery, and the first thing I'd try would be to disconnect the battery overnight and see if that resets it.
