Re: Aftermarket Warranty for VS - What do you reckon?
It can be a gamble, that sum of money could pay for a few repairs (if they were needed), or just be set aside and added to for the 'rainy day'.
I think a fair degree of your decision whether to purchase or not should depend on how long you plan on keeping the car - as there's no point in paying for someone else's benefit.
I've always had a leaning towards warranties, and the experience I had with one of my previous cars will probably indicate why;
I bought a 1995 Scorpio Cosworth in 1999 - it came from the dealer with a 3-year warranty, which I then replaced with a 4-year warranty in 2002 after that one expired(warrantwise @ £700 for the 4-years unlimited mileage cover).
Like the VS, it was a fairly rare car, and bespoke parts were expensive.
Well, I sold that car in 2008, and I did something I swore I'd never do whilst I still owned the car & intended keeping it - I totalled the repair bills. On servicing & repairs alone (no Mots/insurance/tax or consumables like tyres) the figure for the 9 years I owned the car = over £20,000, of which the warranties had covered nearly half that amount (3 replacement autoboxes alone @ £1200 each), plus other items - water pump, etc.
All the best for 2010.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
