Totally agree with the previous posts about the type of impact not setting off the airbags but how old is the car?.
I remember on one of my courses at work finding out that airbags have a shelf life of ten years, after which they should be checked to ensure they still function correctly.
This could be not deploying in a collision or just as worryingly going off for no reason.
Just looked on "ASK" and found this on the AAs website.
I'm sure there will be other sites with more information.
Check your handbooks to see what it says for your vehicles, don't assume they will work forever, they appear to be a service item like most other components.
People who think they know what they're doing are especially annoying to those of us who do.
