Check that the catch on the car is tight.I have known these come loose which means that when you shut the boot,the catch moves down and the boot latch won't hook around it.Even if it isn't loose,try and slacken the bolts holding it and pulling it up(towards the back of the car nearer to the boot latch) and retightening it.
Either that,or the latch itself is partially seized.Try soaking it in WD40(or similar) and try that.If you can get to the boot latch,try closing it with a screwdriver and see if it stays closed.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
