Re: Aftermarket Warranty for VS - What do you reckon?

Hi Oliver, good to hear from you. Not too bad a day, thanks - hope yours is good.

Most catalysts fail internally (i.e. the metal honeycomb starts to break up & rattle inside the casing), this is wear & tear, and is a good item to have covered.

Corrosion is where the outer casing suffers a breach due to rusting - but this is fairly uncommon anyway - and really only occurs on cars which only do very short journeys, or sit idle for long periods at a time. (The catalyst is designed to get hot very quickly, which would boil-off the moisture which would cause this corrosion).

I would doubt if a cat would cost over 500, I had to replace all 3 on my Scorpio and even using branded parts - it was never more than 250 (but that was a few years back - although I can't see the price having doubled)...

Personally, if you're going for the warranty, and its only 30 extra - its worth having.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
