Well that's exactly how my (see photos above) connector melted - I could hear it arcing as I moved the wires.

Maybe all the connectors weren't pushed together correctly when built; or over time that single connector has (due to vibration or faulty workmanship) become dislodged..

Loads of current going through a (higher resistance) bad connection causes more heat, so melting the wire/connector as shown I believe.

Also, what about the door-mirror-control fires shown in threads on this forum... again possibly due to the same sort of problem?
