You probably need an ISO adaptor, whilst the plugs/sockets make look identical the wiring may not tie up exactly.
We had a similar problem when replacing a head unit in an Astra, radio worked ok but lost all settings when power switched off. Bought an ISo adaptor and all was well.

It may even just be a simple case of the connection getting loose when pushed back in dash. Connect every thing up and leave the radio still half way out of the aperture, if it works,the connections are becoming detatched as you push the radio fully in. A quick re-arrangement and tidy up of the wires will then probably do the trick.
