I'd try to remove the trim to sand it/repair it properly. Painting indoors will also give a better finish (plus there isn't any masking off)...
Standard grey primer will suffice, and I'd be inclined to finish off with a light dusting of clear lacquer to give the paint some protection, and to give it a satin-type (not glossy) lustre.
