The original Ford Focus threw a lot of people. There is no internal bonnet release - there's a key operated lock hidden behind the Ford badge on the bonnet instead.
I don't know if they've since carried it over onto any other models or the new Focus. I'd imagine they received a lot of 'tech support' phone calls over it.
Some of the Renaults have the bonnet release in the right hand driver's footwell (e.g. the Laguna II) others have it in the left hand footwell (e.g. the Clio II and obviously from the above, the Scenic.) It looks like they failed to account for the steering wheel being on the other side of the car when translating the manual into English. Which sounds about right for Renault
