Re: diesel or petrol - Advice required
Yes diesels do undoubtedly have more low down torque but modern diesels are being strangled by emissions systems that require long runs to recharge, Citroen/Peugeots FAP system springs to mind and EGR valves don't like stop/start driving, they have a nasty tendency to clog up and cause CEL's on the dash.
Totally agree, we had a diesel Alhambra which gave us no end of problems because it was driven gently in town, the Seat dealers told us we were driving it wrong and needed to drive it harder- yeah, an automatic diesel people carrier to be driven with young kids on board like a boy racer, I think not.
We had no such problems with a petrol scenic, or our current petrol Mazda (both autos) driven in similar circumstances.
I agree with the lower mileage/town driving- petrol
Higher mileages, faster roads - diesel.
People who think they know what they're doing are especially annoying to those of us who do.
Currently in Emily's dad's garage:
1999 Scenic RXE, now gone as has the Alhambra that replaced it !
