The systems on the two cars is different.
The Clio 1's used an immobiliser that was activated by the key blip(which also works the central locking)
The Clio 2's have a transponder key which has a chip in it,which sends a signal to an aerial around the ignition barrel to switch off the immobiliser.
Bridlad,your problem is likely to be the key chip(have you got a spare you could try?),the aerial,or the wiring from the aerial to the
Jason T,your problem is either with the key signal or the reciever in the roof near the interior light.
