Hello Neil,

with regards to your megane when you say the auto gearbox gear changes are not smooth is it like that all the time through all the gears. Do any warning lights come on before it knocks into gear. Obviously without driving the car I cannot say if the gearbox is faulty, but the DPO autobox (which I believe is fitted to your megane) the most common failure on those can be the EVM solonoid valve which regulates the gearbox oil pressure and if that valve is faulting it can cause the jerkyness you describe. This gearbox does feature electronic adaptive shift control and will change gear dependant on your speed, engine load and own driving style. If you are easing off the gas because you feel it is holding the lower gear for too long so it changes up you are just confusing the box and it will change up with a jerk. Just keep your foot on the gas and gently increase pressure as you build up speed and the box will change up without a jerk. Sometimes if the car is used a lot round town the gearbox can get bogged down so a good run can help. If there are actual gearbox faults even though the car is out of warranty I would ring up renault customer services and ask if they will pay or contribute towards the cost of repair as a 4 year old car should not have an auto gearbox fault and under the trade descriptions act the car has to be fit for purpose for the reasonable life of the vehicle. Anyway hope what I have put is of some help to you.

Currently in Haree's garage:
I don't have a garage just a driveway. The Modus 1.6 16v VVT Dynamique Auto is my Grandparents car which I also drive.
