I'm not sure about the Scenic, but the Laguna came with two variations of the tyre pressure monitor display. One did show the actual pressures, while the other just showed which wheels (if any) had a problem.
To confuse matters further, early Lag IIs that did show the pressures only showed them for a few seconds after the engine started, or if there was a low reading or sensor fault. Later models (from late 2002 I think) let you check the pressures while driving as one of the modes on the trip computer.
As far as I'm aware, there's no way of disabling the system without dealer intervention. You're stuck with the display until you get the problem fixed. If you have full colour sat-nav on the Phase 1 Laguna II, this is doubly annoying, because it insists on obscuring the right hand third of the map with a diagram of the car (highlighting the problematic wheels) until you get it resolved.
