I think it also depends on what environment in which the car is used or parked. I garage my car whenever not in use yet my mate who loves in a woodland area could change his twice a year.
I believe dirty pollen filters couldn't be good for heater motors as it must put the motor under heavy load similar to that of a vacuum cleeaner when its bag or bin gets filled up. Personally I am of the opinion that blocked pollen filters have been the death of many a heater blower motor or its ballast resistors.
