Re: BBC Watchdog report :: Faulty Renault Clio bonnet catches
In addition to writing to registered keepers offering a free inspection of the bonnet and safety catch components Renault have provided an insert for owners’ manuals on maintenance requirements, and issued an instruction to their dealerships to include bonnet and safety catches in standard servicing schedules.

I have just downloaded a copy of the handbook from Renault's UK website - Nothing there about making sure the secondary catch is secured - it reads as follows:-
Closing the bonnet
To close the bonnet, replace strut 4 in its mounting 3, hold the bonnet in the middle and lower it to 20 cm
above the closed position. Now release it and it will lock under its own weight. Check that the bonnet is correctly locked. Check that nothing has been left in
the engine compartment before closing the bonnet.
