Assuming the engine
looked unclean if it still looks unclean, I'd doubt that it's been changed. Go back & speak with the person in charge and him if it looks like its been changed.
After once being bitten (although not for long) with not having the pollen filter changed during a service, I've overcome that issue now, by telling the garage to supply but not to fit the pollen filter.
Although in fairness a PF is a doddle to fit in 5 minutes with no tools needed on mine.
