Re: How long does it take to run Diagnostics ... ?
Running a diagnostic check isn't as simple as alot of people think.
Yes plug the computer in and get fault codes.
But what if is a multiplex wiring fault on the immobilser which could have 101 different causes?
Computers don't tell us everything, they just point us in the right direction, and sometimes even point us in the complete wrong direction.
Just think of it as, if it was as easy as plug in a laptop everyone would be doing it and there would be no need for mechanics
Fed up reading people banging on about diagnostic checks, 9 times out of ten its pretty straight forward, every now and again however you get one that isn't, the scan tool isnt a crystal ball, it will read codes and most often live data but you need to know how to interpret the information, just because it says there is a camshaft sensor fault you dont automatically replace the sensor!, what about when you dont get any relating fault DTC's or if you cant get comms with the
at all? I've had faults that have taken seconds and faults that have taken hours, even days, try finding a bad connection in a CAN network, or a short to 12v behind a dashboard, or how about an airbag multiplex fault that only appears on hard right hand turns!!!!! how the hell is anyone expexted to diagnose that in under an hour, cars get more complicated every month and it seems the drivers get less and less patient every day.......
