Some years ago I had a similar problem on a Vauxhall. I was able to seal the gap using a rubber based sealer which never hardens. It's called Dum Dum putty. You need to roll in it your hands to get it pliable and using a plastic scraper or such it knifes easily into the gap and gives a good smooth finish. Yet it can be easily removed even years later. Better still it is darned cheap and can be used on various applications around the home.
