The original welds would have been either spot welded or short seam welds. Under DOT/VOSA regulations all repairs must be SEAM WELDED.
(so they will be of equal strength or better, only issue then will be the anti-corrosion warranty regarding that reworked area.)

Because you have the car on finance, you have more options than someone who bought thiers outright.

i think you could possibly hand the keys over and walk away with no penalties incurred as the car provided by renualt is not fit to be on the road.
(you could reject the car as being defective from manufacture point and demand full money back or a brand new car)

You need to check up on that, which is why renault are so keen to get the car sorted, they are liable to the finance co. and it is a major issue that they have an undetected automated assembly line problem, it also means that there might be other cars out there that have a similar problem.

[just think, you may have been the one to trigger a safety recall ]
